Auxilliary Audio Install in a 2002 Nissan Altima

I got my aux cable from Active Tuning.

Before you start on this, it is a good idea to disconnect your car battery. You will, however, lose your current trip data.

Dash Disassembly

Here is the dashboard and stereo in all its dusty glory before I start anything. Note the middle portion consists of two pieces. In order to take this apart, grab the lower climate control face plate in the back and gently pull. It should snap partly off.

This piece is being held in by two clips. Take a flat head screwdriver and push these clips down and the whole piece should come off.

Like this.

The upper portion of the dashboard is being held in by one screw and a number of clips. Take out this screw, just to the right of the climate controls. Grab the whole piece any way you can and pull it out.

At this point I freaked out when the stereo faceplate fell off along with the dashboard, but thankfully, it can just be plugged back in.

The Stereo

Whew! Now with the faceplate back in place, there are four screws holding the stereo in place. Take them out. Grab the whole stereo and simply pull it out.

It is connected in the back by three separate cables. What you need to look for is the large, black, aux connector. The purple wire being pointed to is the power into which you will splice in.

Aux port connected.

To splice into the power, use the provided 3m connector. Insert the purple wire into the free end, make sure its all the way inside. Grab the plastic flap and fold it over, pushing the metal clip down and creating a connection between the two wires. Fold this flap *all* the way over until it locks into place. Once set up, it should not move. It should be firmly attached to the purple wire.

Testing

Reconnecting the battery, I hook up my iPod to test everything out before putting the dash back together. It works! Notice "AUX" being displayed on the stereo readout. Put everything back together now in the reverse order.
